Last weekend I took an online workshop on mixed media painting through Assembly Creators. We used watercolor, acrylic, charcoal pencil and any other colorful markers or pens we had laying around.
It was SUCH a great time. Our instructor Sam led us through various steps of creating our pieces, though she made it clear that we could do our own thing - anything and everything was optional. The group was friendly and engaging, and it was absolutely fascinating to see what each person had created by the end. Following the same steps, there were such singular, different outcomes for each of us.
I'm really loving painting, even though I don't feel like I know what I'm doing and I dislike about 90% of what I create. I think it'll be interesting to see how things develop over time, as I become more knowledgeable about different processes, more confident in my mark making, and closer to creating things I like. It's so strange to start with a blank canvas and no plan, only to have something - good or bad - develop over a few hours. What a journey!
